about

Writing:
I originally wrote this as a piss take on my acoustic as a song called “Please fuck off” to get people to clear off out of the house at night, then one night I recorded a rough acoustic demo of Schiphol at my mate Dee’s house.. A week or so later Meteor Street jammed around with the structure I had in mind..
-
Recording:
Ed certainly does the trademark dancing into the kit he is infamous for on this track with some style, Sam's playing on this is also notable- a bit like a cross between super furrys lead and pavement, Kryss's snaking bass in the 2nd part is truly inspired but I think we can agree Johnj steals the show on this one with some truly unbelievable yet inspired string parts.. Slick git that he is!
-
Lyrically:
this song is about sleeping rough in Holland especially near Schiphol airport and the resulting insomnia.. It's more about going round in circles in a tourist trap town then anything else.. That's what the square one things about..

lyrics

Lyrics:
Back to square one again
To the clearing that we've made
With these bare hands
Feel blessed in the evening
Or rest upon the stony ground
-
With free out look means
Cometh several spirited leaps
-
Old but ebbing light
Illuminates the cold surroundings
Initiate the waking dream
-
I'm a restless soul
I'm a restless soul
I've learned all I've taught or so I'm sincerely told..
-
Upon the passages of time
Hazard a navigated guess
From the horizontal leap
To the vertical abyss
-
Old but ebbing light
Illuminates harsh cold horizons
Initiate the waking dream..
-
I'm a restless soul
I'm a restless soul
I've learned all I've taught or so I'm sincerely told..
